Highway 29

Because of a failed heating system, the gaming Meetup was scrubbed for tonight, so my 7th Sea work will hold off for another month.  Unfortunate, as part of the plan for tonight was talking with a couple of prospective players about another upcoming game, but hopefully that can be managed over dinner in the next week or so.

Instead of gaming, then, I played with trains and caught up on reading, or at least tried to.  Still greatly enjoying the rediscovery of Dune, and I am certainly getting more out of it now than I did on my last pass through.

Great geeky moment for me today, too.  When I registered my copy of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, I was eligible for a little gift from Nintendo, and it was in the afternoon's mail - a DS stylus molded in the shape of a quill pen!  Terribly cute, and I think it'll fit into both a DS jewelbox and the case for my Palm TX.

I've listened to a great huge pile of Bruce Springsteen tonight.  It's put me into a very specific mindset, and I'm savoring it.  Springsteen's words flow in through the headphones, and my take on them flows out onto the screen.

Seeing most of High Fidelity this afternoon has helped out, too.  Springsteen's cameo is a hoot, and the movie was the last bit of evidence I needed for a particular theory:  If you're an American male within five years of me in age, and have never been in a state where you could identify as a John Cusack character, you are either a dirty liar or have no soul and should be removed from the population.

Also on tonight's movie list was The Rocketeer.  Indirectly, it led to tonight's writing about as much as the few hours of Springsteen.

I should get back to said writing.  I'm good for another hour or so, then it's bedtime.  Tomorrow is grilling with the newlyweds.
