Every Breath you Take

I have acquired a useful new tool.  Found 2GB SD memory cards at Office Depot for $30 this morning.  One is now plugged into my TX.

I'm constantly amazed at how technology progresses.  This little bitty thing, which I can cover with the last knuckle of my thumb, has more usable storage space than my first PC did, even after adding the whopping 1.2GB second hard drive.  It's plugged into a device that is about 4.5x as fast as that first PC, and has a communications capability that barely existed in 1994.

I love current portable memory devices. I have a 2Gb SD card in my digital camera, a 2Gb USB stick (which I picked up for NZ$22!) in the coin pocket of my jeans and a 1Gb USB stick (NZ$13) attached to my key-chain. Doing a little math I've realised this is equivilent to almost 3000 3.5" disks! That's just freaking crazy!

I've also got a half-Terabyte of big ol' hard drives and it's still not enough. Waa!

It's really something. As Tegyrius is fond of pointing out, the limiting factor for how small a lot of this stuff can get is the continued need for a human interface.

Yeah, that's very true. Maybe one day tech will get to the level where we have nano-devices in our bodies that auto-magically store data for us and connect to computers and other devices remotely. That would be the ultimate, tho it is probably a considerable amount of time off.
