Space Age Whiz Kids

Came in a little under 2000 words yesterday.  I'm hoping that I can get another 3000 today once grocery and laundry errands are done.

Atlantis is scheduled to lift off this afternoon, but continuing problems with fuel tank sensors may prevent the launch.  Heck of a thing to think that, including this mission, there are only going to be a dozen more shuttle flights before the program is retired.

Archon is going back to a three-day schedule for this year, and the state of Illinois took possession of the Holiday Inn that plays host to a lot of the convention's events.  The owners built the hotel with a whole lot of state-loaned cash, and were not in any real hurry to pay it back.  There's also evidence of some kind of accounting shenanigans going on.  Illinois has a management company employed to run the hotel (and do a lot of renovation) before it's put back on the market.

3 days? Crap. I wonder how many regulars will show up early and run "spontaneous" events and room parties on Thursday evening.

Kovalic's one of the GoHs. I can hear the wife squealing now.

I reserved my hotel assuming a four-day con, and I think I'm going to keep it that way. Go out on Thursday, and if there are unofficial events on Thursday night, terrific! If not, I'll be able to rest up nicely from the drive and be ready to go come Friday.

If nothing else, finally make the side trip out to Cahokia. Or further investigate the "Meat Bundle".

Cahokia. Yeah, I think you're onto something there.
