Don't Give Up

I'm of two minds regarding the opening weekend box office take for Expelled.  On the one hand, I'm glad that this piece of lousy anti-science propaganda only pulled in $3.1 million.  On the other, that means that close to half-a-million people plunked down time and money for this thing.  I can't see that the movie would draw in anybody who was undecided about ID versus evolution;  I would guess that everyone who went to see it would be either already solidly in one camp or another.

That's the Ben Stein movie, right? I'd go see it because Ben Stein makes me laugh. Not always intentionally. :P

That's the one. I guess I could go and get a good laugh out of the deliberate bad understanding of good science.

Nah, in reality higher box office will just give them cause to make more of them. Wait for it to come on cable.

Seriously, if I couldn't make the time to go see Jason Statham knock over a bank, do you think I'd make it to this nonsense?

For what it's worth, the producers made arrangements to pay Christian schools money for so much headcount in the theaters, so I'm curious how much of the volume was that (and church groups ala Passion).

I actually intend to see it this week, although my intention is to give Jackie Chan and Jet Li my money instead.

Really? I didn't know about the hired viewers.

Yeah, the schools turn in ticket stubs and in return, at least some of them get cash.

This was the original article I read about it:

It's got a link to the actual site as well.

Wow. Mandatory field trips - and bring the parents, so you can get more of a kickback!
