All Along the Watchtower

Last night, the NASA Phoenix lander safely touched down on Mars, the first successful powered landing on our neighbor world in a couple of decades.  There will be some good, and fairly big, science from this.  Nothing like a manned shot - and a colony venture, so long as I'm dreaming - but it's something.  Oh, and the program's total cost?  About what the US is spending in two days on the occupation of Iraq.

I haven't done much of anything since Saturday.  Minimal work on the Spycraft projects, unfortunately.  The missions for this weekend are together enough;  I can fill in the gaps as we go once the games are underway.

The Phoenix landing is awesome.

And once Phoenix's mission is complete, it will turn into a remote outpost. Our first on Mars.

I'm going to be watching this mission with great interest. You never know when something interesting will turn up.

On the one hand, I think finding evidence of life on Mars would be amazing beyond words. On the other, if there was something there, a colony venture would be virtually impossible, since the demand to preserve the environment would be so great.

Not that we've done much of that here on the blue planet, that is.
