Teenage Love

Today is Free RPG Day, and I got the two items I wanted most.  First, congrats to [profile] cybogoblin for his contribution to a quite terrific Hollow Earth Expedition quickstart booklet.  The Hunter: the Vigil booklet is quite nice, too, and makes me pretty hopeful for the full version of the game.

I also picked up Starships of the Galaxy, for the Star Wars Saga line.  It's a good-looking book, and introduces new feats and talents to the game, as well as a subset of rules involving starship/vehicle maneuvers.  The starships covered range from the Old Republic through Legacy eras, so I'm a little bit lost on some of the context, but it's not anything crippling.

One of the nifty side-effects of last week's William Gibson signing was the reconnection with one of my best friends from college, and through him (and Facebook, dammit) getting back in touch with some other friends from my time at UK.  Something I'm remembering, or maybe discovering, is a whole lot of missed opportunities.  Seriously, going through your college career attached to one person is a bad idea.

Twenty years ago yesterday was the beginning of my time at the Governor's Scholars Program, and that was an adventure.  One (so far) lifelong friendship, countless discussions and ideas, and one truly spectacularly screwed-up relationship with the most broken human being I've ever known.

(In case you're asking why-all-of-a-sudden, it's because the cat is very cute.)

Amen brother, Amen.

If only we could give our younger selves advice somehow, yes?

Thank you for the kind words, sir. I wasn't going to mention my involvement so you could discover it on your own ;)

Did you get to play any games on the day?

I had a suspicion you were involved, and it was a treat to see your name in the credits!

Alas, no gaming for me yesterday.

It was a buzz for me, too. Shame it's only a limited-run intro adventure. Still, it was a thrill to find out that it would be played in such distant locales as Germany.

It's getting some use here in faraway Lexington, Kentucky, within a couple of weeks.

The HEX rules were the first to go at my FLGS. Thankfully, one of my guys grabbed a copy. I'm looking forward to reading it.
