Disintegration

Treated myself to some new media yesterday - Worlds That Weren't, a collection of four alternate-history novellas by Harry Turtledove (because you can say "alternate history" and a new piece with Turtledove's name on it will spontaneously form out of the quantum foam), Walter Jon Williams, S. M. Stirling (a safari in his world of The Peshawar Lancers), and the great prize for me, Mary Gentle (a prequel of sorts to her Chronicles of Ash).  In addition to the book, I picked up Chris Whitley's Living With the Law.  I wish I'd discovered Whitley sooner - he's a fine songwriter.

While at Joseph-Beth, leafing through a hardbound collection of the first half-dozen or so New Avengers comics, my dear sweet [profile] spykeetom was receiving the unwanted attentions of Big-Time SF/Fantasy Guy.  I nearly broke into his monologue when he started talking about how cool Orson Scott Card is, but Spykeetom can take care of herself in these situations, and did so.  She is, quite simply, Superior.

Fed the fish and ducks at Lexington Green's pond, dinner at Ruby Tuesday (big honkin' chocolate tallcake).

Listened to the Horsemen game on the radio - beat the Evansville Bluecats.

Today - grilling some big chops for lunch, I think.

Mention of Card still comes close to tripping the Screaming Fist of Death Point-Defense System, huh?

He's a decent writer, with a couple of good ideas, but his universes have too many holes in them, and his far-right bullshit politics are just intolerable.

Sounds like a good time. I miss Jo-Beth!
