The Awakening

I've slept all day.  Three missed phone calls, probably seeing where I was instead of being at the game.  On the one hand, I'm a little cranky that I missed playing.  On the other, seems that I needed this kind of rest.

I've had no luck with any kind of creative activity this weekend.  My writing goals for the weekend were ridiculously low, and I still failed to come even close to them.  MSWord is open in another window, and the little line I put at the end of things I'm working on (date and wordcount goal) reads like an indictment right now.

In a little less than 48 hours, I'll be on vacation for the GenCon trip.  I'm really looking forward to the trip, even with my knowledge of certain stresses that I'll have to deal with.  It'll be worth it, though.  I have a deliberately-truncated shopping list, and I do know full-well that I'll pick up things not on that list.  Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll get into a game or three.

You're not the only one with a short shopping list. I think I may even be picking up more stuff for other people than I am for myself. Or, at least, what I'm planning to get for myself :p In a way it kinda helps that there is nothing from Crafty coming out at the Con. That would have certainly bumped my numbers a bit :p

As for games, I'll try and organise a PUG of Hollow Earth if you're interested at some point. I'm currently running two official two-hour games (on the Thursday and Sunday, iirc), but other than that I'm pretty much free.

The only must-buys on my list are Combat Missions (and that may wind up being my comp copy), Hero High, and Unhallowed Metropolis. Probables, depending on my other spending, are Paragons and Monte Cook's World of Darkness.

I'd love to take a look at Hollow Earth - the only times I'm locking myself into are the Green Ronin and Crafty seminars.

McWOD certainly looks interesting to me, I think I'll be getting that from my FLGS when it arrives. Too bad I'm not going to the Con this year, it's always been a lot of fun.

I like the idea of it, and I'm really looking forward to the execution. I'm exceedingly glad it's not going to be just a straight system conversion.

Agreed. I'm an unabashed Monte Cook fanboy to begin with, so I'm really looking forward to seeing his take on the WOD. It seems to me that with MCWoD, I'm finally getting the modern horror game I've always been looking for in a package I already know.

Does any one know when Savage Worlds of Solomon Kane is coming out? Is that a GenCon release as well?

Most recent Pinnacle information says Solomon Kane arrives in October. I believe it was previewed at Origins.

"In a way it kinda helps that there is nothing from Crafty coming out at the Con."

How many GenCons have gone past now since World on Fire was supposed to be released?

All of them, I think.

In 2005, I ran four Ten Thousand Bullets games at Archon, fully expecting to see it on shelves the following month. So, I still wait.

Don't get me wrong, I've met both Pat and Alex and they're great guys, but as a whole, Crafty can't get their shit together and that's more than a bit alarming.

The only thing that's changed about Spycraft is the name of the folks who're putting it out. Otherwise, it's AEG all over again.

Hey, they've both cut checks for me, so I'm disinclined to have any real beef with 'em.

There are some problems with the shop, though, definitely.

I've got a real problem with one of the licensing rules - the no-competitive-product clause. I can understand wanting to protect a niche, but I'm still enough of a capitalist to say let the market decide.
