Oedipus Tyrannus Overture

The cold is not going away. I cancelled tomorrow night's RPG session - a) I don't think I'll be rid of this by then and b) I don't want to spread this to my friends. I'm sticking with the traditional treatment routine - keeping fed, resting as much as possible, and medicine to suppress symptoms. This is most unpleasant.

The CW DC series' crossover event was telecast this week. Earth-X's Nazis invaded Earth-1, and the heroes of all four shows came together to repel the invasion. It was darn good superhero adventure, better than both Batman V. Superman and Suicide Squad. These shows are, for me, the vanguard of television's crop of supers shows. I love their Supergirl - Melissa Benoist is pretty without being supermodel beautiful, Kara is consistently hopeful and cheerful, and the writers let her be angry, and that's a rarity in writing. Arrow may have run its course, but it still gets in some good storytelling and I'll always love it for for putting Mr. Terrific on my screen. The Flash is the most variable in terms of quality and enjoyment, but when it's on, it's just fantastic. After a shaky and too-serious start, Legends of Tomorrow has gone all-in on fun, maybe over-the-top comic-book stories with a cast that seems to be having a great time in their roles.

The morning after the Crisis on Earth-X, Marvel released the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, and holy cow. This is going to tie all of the MCU characters together, including the cosmic side. Giant cast, the heroes coming together to fight off Thanos. Infinity War releases on May 4, 2018 - a couple of days after the tenth anniversary of Iron Man, which was the gamble that started this juggernaut.

Here at stately Bourbon Manor, we've talked about this era of SF/fantasy/superhero adaptations. Not so long ago, we watched geek media, no matter the quality, because it's all we had. Now, there's enough out there that a given work has to be good, or it won't get an audience.

I hope you're feeling better - if not, get well soon!
