Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so I've got the day off. Lots of rallies and marches and other events to commemorate Dr. King's work, how far we've come, and how much ground is still to be covered.

It's also John Carpenter's birthday. Should you not know who that is, get thee to a video store and rent Big Trouble in Little China, Halloween (only the first one), Escape From New York, and The Thing. There are others in Mr. Carpenter's catalog, of course, but those are the ones to see first, and most often.

Bob Sphire, who coached the Lexington Catholic hyskool football program, is heading to a school in Georgia.

Since I give less than a rat's ass about high school or college sports, why am I posting this?

Because Sphire was also the coach of our local indoor football team, the Lexington Horsemen.

I wish him the best, but we're sure gonna miss him.
