Bridges Burning
Sep. 7th, 2008 08:22 amWent to Liberty yesterday. Helped Dad clear out two more of his collection of junkers. Got some news on the Mustang. Goofed off for a bit. As it was his birthday, he and Mom and I headed out for dinner in the evening, to Lure Lodge at the Lake Cumberland State Resort Park. Upon arriving at the park, we noticed something was up, as the road was lined with a lot of high-end boat trailers and trucks, quite a few with racing team information on them. We figured a show or race.
Got to the lodge, and the restaurant was closed for the next hour. We didn't much feel like waiting, even though watching some of the boats out on the lake was interesting, and headed to a fallback option, a little restaurant known to some friends of my parents. Hokie-smokes, but the Jamestown Cafe is quite terrific. Relatively simple fare, but prepared extremely well, with healthy portion sizes and great service.
While at the restaurant, we found out a little more of what was going on at the Lake. There was a poker run, and something had gone wrong. A catamaran crossed another boat's wake at about 130MPH and flipped. The driver was killed, passenger injured. Hell of a thing - some accounts and pictures (including a post from the first-responder who helped recover the boat) over at http://lakecumberland.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=20824&page=1. Registration not required.
NFL season goes into full swing today, after Thursday night's opening game.
