Happy Independence Day!

It's gonna be hot today.  Better than 90 in the early afternoon, with thunderstorms moving through the area.  Clear enough right now, though.

One snag in the city's parades and whatnot - there's a hostage situation at Elm Tree and East Second that's been going on since about 2 this morning.

A shuttle launch is planned for 2:35 this afternoon.  Third try for this mission - weather has interfered with the last two windows.  I hope and pray this goes off well.  I've already heard scads of conspiracy theories - NASA is actually hoping that Discovery will be damaged on launch, but can make it to the ISS, so Atlantis or Endeavour can make a rescue flight, allowing NASA to retire the shuttle fleet early while showing the agency in a positive light.  *sigh*  Nutjobs.

How to stay busy until the 9th:
1.  Write write write today.
2.  Work and prep for Spycraft tomorrow.
3.  Work and play Spycraft Thursday.
4.  Work and write Friday.
5.  Mom's birthday on Saturday.
6.  D&D game on Sunday.

5 days.

Heroes

David Bowie's "Heroes" is playing right this minute.  Love this very very much.

Within a few minutes of Discovery's launch, North Korea conducted a test of three missiles.  Two were short-range descendants of the ancient SS-2;  the third was a multi-stage ICBM believed to have range enough to hit the western United States.  All wound up in the Sea of Japan.  The ICBM failed about 50 seconds after launch.

Accomplished not nearly enough today.  Hoped for 1100 words, but got maybe half that.  I can feel the brain spooling back up, though, and it's a good feeling.

Keep flashing back to how beautiful the shuttle launch was.  So good to see it heading up again.

Mom's new sofa arrived today.  I think she wanted me to come to Liberty to pick up the old one, but as I'll be there Saturday for her birthday, that'll have to wait.  This weekend could be another one of entirely too much road time.

Lesson learned tonight from Music Choice:  I need some Kate Bush.

And now, somebody starts launching fireworks.  Glad I'm parked out front.
