Every couple of years, my interest in role-playing games starts to drop off. The lull is hitting me now, and pretty darn hard. After the L5R game aborted, we took a stab at a Gotham Central-style game, but it never got past character discussion. I ran a SW: EotE one-shot a couple of weeks ago, and that was fun, but haven't felt like putting together a second game, even using one of the ready-to-play adventures on my shelf.
Ben, my right-hand-man in organizing events for our game club, is leaving town in a couple of weeks, and tomorrow will be his last game day. Mine, too, more than likely - we're not having an event on May 3 because of Lexicon, and if I'm still in town on the third Saturday in May, then things have gone horribly horribly wrong and I've got much bigger things to be concerned with than clattering some dice with my fellow nerds. We've selected our successor, and the group will be in good hands. Tomorrow will be a good time; we're get in some minis and/or board games, then go out for dinner and drinks, one last time.
The loss of interest has even spread to GenCon. It's been the highlight of my year since, Christ, 2008, but I've got minimal interest right now. I'm puttering away at getting the final team roster together, but still need to find a couple more people. And right now, I'm planning on taking next year off. Going as a civilian, if at all.
I'm pulling a number of books from my RPG bookshelf for disposal at HPB. Getting better at admitting that I'll never use a lot of this stuff, and I'm not even interested in reading it or mining it for ideas. And there's no point to boxing it, moving it, and reshelving it, wherever I am in seven weeks.
