Trade Secrets
Jan. 17th, 2018 11:56 amA few days ago, on the 13th, Hawaii's Emergency Management Agency sent out a statewide alert - an incoming ballistic missile. It was a false alarm, thankfully, triggered when an employee clicked on the wrong menu link during a shift change. It was simple human error, and probably wouldn't be any kind of story, except that the agency took almost 40 minutes to acknowledge the error. To their credit, agency officials took responsibility for the mistake, rather than try to explain it away as a computer error of some kind.
Unsurprisingly, there were stories of panic. No reports of injuries or deaths, again, thankfully. Plenty of disruptions and some frayed nerves. Some loss of confidence in the state EMA, probably.
Still cold here. Some more snow yesterday morning. I-65 South in Hart County was closed for some time because of an accident - three or four tractor-trailers and a Greyhound bus. No injuries. Locally, neighborhood roads were messy.
