Five shifts over four days, with two more scheduled this week, both of them midnight-8AM, and that means I'm putting the phone on Do Not Disturb when I go to bed tonight and I don't care that I'm supposed to be on-call tomorrow, if you're not on a very short list of people, any attempt to reach me will be a waste of effort and I'm sure as hell not working.

It's the first day of April, so pretty much All-Day Amateur Hour. No April Fool jokes or pranks around me today, thankfully.

Not fooling at all, Louisville cleared one of the city's biggest homeless camps today - on Jefferson Street beneath I-65. Some of the affected folks got placed with shelters and other services, but there's a chunk of that population that flat does not want to live any other way.

There are better solutions to homelessness than allowing camps to form up and then leveling them every couple of years. Some cities have bought up abandoned or otherwise cheap houses and placing the homeless there. The (now formerly) homeless have a safe place to stay with an actual address - a real advantage when it comes to finding jobs and providing stability and increasing responsibility. It works, long-term, returning these folks to productive society, helping them with emotional and mental health needs, and keeping properties from wasting away.
