I got home from work around 8:15 Friday morning - no backup at the Cochran Hill tunnels that morning! Gaming materials had been assembled the day before, so I got my duffel bag together and some food and drinks in a reusable grocery bag and lay down for a bit. Got on the road a little before 10AM.

I had prepared myself for the drive, for the long haul through the verdant desolation of southern Indiana and Illinois. I went that way two years ago, to St. Louis and the transportation museum, and the drive definitely felt different then. This time, too, went quickly, faster than I expected or remembered - after all, the last time I went to Archon was in 2012 when we were gaming guests of honor. Cutting out the 80 miles between Lexington and Louisville made a difference in the drive. The 270 miles just rolled by.

I detoured to Belleville for a visit to a model train shop. Nice place. Refueled the Escape, and headed to the convention site.
I got to Collinsville, had lunch, and picked up my badge. Had a few good chats while waiting for my friends to show up. Checked the art show and dealers' room, goofed off, and soon enough it was time for the first Trail of Cthulhu game. Four players, and they were very good and got into things quickly. A good, entertaining game. It was nearly midnight my time when we wrapped up, so I retired to my hotel and slept.

Saturday, quick trip to Wal-Mart for some 5W30, and found a couple cases of real sugar Mountain Dew. Breakfast at Bob Evans, a couple of panels, lunch at Zapata's and back into the gaming halls. No players for this afternoon's investigation. Honestly, I didn't mind. Leighton's game didn't go off, either, so we jumped in on Josh's Sword Bastards game, and that was a good time. I was tired, so, again, back to my hotel. Friends said they would call if there were parties in the offing. There were not. I slept.

Breakfast at the hotel this morning. Loaded the Escape, checked out, and headed over for a Morrow Project game. I was pretty excited about this chance, but ... the GM was late arriving. Clayton and I and the other player were just about to leave when the GM made it. Christ, we should have left. It was a terrible game. When it finally ended, 32 relative hours later, Clayton and I decided to skip lunch and just head home.

I got here around 6:15. Housemate seemed incapable of conversation beyond grunts and whatnot, and I wasn't interested in chatting anyway. Went out for food, came back, he was gone. I'm on my couch, comfortable and tired, and I'm going to watch some football.

It was really good to get back to Archon.
