About a year ago, I responded to a post on RPGnet from a guy who was moving to Lexington to go to law school at UK.  E-mails and chats followed, and my gaming group and I invited him and his girlfriend to join.  Things went poorly - a character more interested in playing at Doctors Without Borders or some damn thing isn't going to be a good fit with a group of hard-charging Rebel operatives.  The two of them dropped out.  I was a little bothered by this (I try to be a peacemaker and reach compromises), until everybody in my player group expressed no regret about the dropouts.  The kindest words were "no real loss."

So, for the past year or so, this guy has slid some sideways comments about the group into his posts on RPGnet.  No big deal.  I'm the better man;  I can handle this.

Yesterday, he posts a whiny missive about his woes in finding a good gaming group in town.  He's been "a bad fit" with two other groups since opting out of the Alpine group (us), and is getting all emo and passive-aggressive.  For whatever reason, I've about had it with this nonsense, and I'm doing my best to keep myself from dropping a hammer on him.

In the words of Despair, Inc., "The only consistent feature in all of your dissatisfying relationships is you."  I know some of the players from another group.  I know my group, and know 'em well.  As disparate as we are, if my entire group wants nothing to do with you, then, pal, there is something wrong with you.

There are a lot of ways to role-play, and not every player's going to fit well with every group. If he's not mature enough to realize that and move on without hard feelings, he needs to grow up. Lexington's got plenty of gamers of all stripes, so if he can't find a group he likes, maybe the problem isn't the Lexington gaming scene.
