February strikes again. My buddy Pete Sears has suffered a stroke. I went over to New Albany to see him this evening. He's alert and aware of his surroundings, but can't speak - which has to be like me being unable to drink all of the iced tea within reach. He has some motor control, and can communicate a little bit with his hand, but he's clearly frustrated that he can't speak. Secondhand word is he's likely to regain his speech in time. Gods, I hope that's the case - he's a semi-professional actor.

I finally got things sorted with my Louisville library system card. Man, there's this fantastic e-book lending service called Libby that I am a little bit in love with. It links to the Kindle app on my iPad and my Goodreads account, and the library of available books is pretty darn good.

My current read is Summer of Night, by Dan Simmons. Pretty good so far, and of a kind with Stephen King's IT. Kids on bikes, small town, bullies, and an evil force. The geographic center or anchor for the force is the recently-closed and very old school building, which for some reason housed a bell forged by order of the Borgia family. I'm enjoying it.
