It's a rainy night here in Louisville. The Ohio is going to be at a high flood stage sometime tomorrow, and there will almost surely be road closures by sunrise. I saw lightning somewhere around Hikes Point on my drive home tonight, and there's a lot of wind mixing in with things now.

Dad just sent me a couple of pictures of Wolf Creek Dam. The water is high down there, too - I think that Lake Cumberland is going to see a record depth this weekend. The dam's spillways are wide open, and given the dam's structural woes from a few years ago, I'm betting that there's a group of Corps of Engineers staffers watching things very carefully.

The home county is under a flash flood warning until shortly after midnight. I figure Green River will be out of its banks along old KY70 and US127 in the southern end of the county, and KY206 will probably be underwater for quite a ways down around the Adair line. Here, we have a flood advisory for areas with poor drainage - so, most of the city and county - until midnight tomorrow.

Just something you have to deal with, living on a real navigable waterway. I can remember occasional creek flooding in Lexington, but not much more than that. Here, we've got the Ohio and Beargrass Creek and a hojillion other waterways to contend with, so flooding is a real concern.

In other news, had a heck of a fun time at Joe Phelps' birthday party this afternoon. Lots of Lovecraft games - we won at Elder Sign, tried Munchkin Cthulhu, and got devoured in Arkham Horror. I'm impressed with Arkham Horror's third edition - it adds a powerful narrative element to the game, with story advances and shifting conditions. On the other hand, I was reminded of why I really don't like Munchkin, in pretty much any incarnation. Anyway - it was a really good evening.

Number of very cool things seen from the 30th floor of PNC Tower today - a short (14-car) CSX freight train crossing the L&I bridge into Louisville, a red-tailed hawk flying around the building (seen a floor or two lower than my vantage point), and a LMPD helicopter zipping by at my relative eye level.
