Mom's heart surgery was three years ago today. When I think about it, we came so very close to losing her, and it's a wonder that she was able to work for as long as she did. The human body is capable of some crazy feats sometimes, especially when combined with uncut Appalachian stubbornness.

I ordered a couple of books for Trail of Cthulhu, direct from Pelgrane, and gods love 'em for providing electronic copies when you buy print. Starting their journey from a warehouse in a small town in Nevada on July 1, these books have gone to Reno, Los Angeles (staying there for a week), Des Moines, Cincinnati, back to Des Moines, and then back to LA. Could be logistics, could be a damaged shipping label, could be fallout from that orange bastard's toady doing his best to wreck the USPS. Hopefully I'll get them by Labor Day.

My MCC characters hit third level after yesterday's session! One got whammied by some kind of extradimensional parasite and lost three points of Intelligence, so not all post-apocalyptic sunshine and rainbows. Another PC suffered similarly, and we've petitioned our judge to put us on some quest for our characters to get their brainpower back. Still having a heck of a good time playing this game.

I've came close to quitting the job and buying a pistol this week. For the record, these two things are unrelated. I have 6-8 months' of living expenses socked away, and, well, it is very much a job-seeker's market right now.

I finished the big anthology and dove right into Kim Stanley Robinson's Aurora. About 100 pages in, it's so darn good, and wow I have missed his writing. Generation ship, colonizing a Tau Ceti exomoon. This is the good stuff.
