tracker7UPS and FedEx and some others grounded their MD-11 fleets after the crash last week. I've driven by SDF a few times in the last couple of days and seen five or six of the planes parked on the apron in front of the big UPS hangar. I wonder if their days are numbered now.
So, what happened was, the left engine fell off during the takeoff roll. There are a hojillion videos of the takeoff and crash and the immediate aftermath. It's cold comfort to the survivors of the 14 folks who died, but this could have been so much worse.
