Departures
Aug. 23rd, 2007 11:10 pmI learned today that the Lexington Horsemen, our city's United Indoor Football League team, is being disbanded. The franchise has lost too much money to continue on, says the owner, and he's got to close up shop. This news put me in a funk all day. I've greatly dug on the Horsemen (and arena football) since the team was organized a few years ago. A Horsemen game figured prominently in the day that Erin and I met. They were my football team, honestly even moreso than the Raiders. Now, they're gone. I feel like I've lost a friend.
I also learned today that one of the members of my employer's editorial board was canned, and that is much less of a loss. Homophobia, racism, and anti-Semitism don't fly too well with our management, and a self-created mythology as a crusading minority journalist is not enough to allow that sort of thing to go unanswered. So long, Jimi. You won't be missed.
