An ad proof just crossed my desk with a note from the sales goon - "Use a different font in [indicated section].  Client finds this one hard to read."

It's a PDF the client created and e-mailed to us.

I do so like responding to that sort of thing.

Another is the: "Why does it work this way? That makes no sense. Why would anyone want it to work that way? It should work this other way." email.

And then you show them the email you sent them 18 months ago saying it should be done "this other way" and their replay saying, "No, do it this way."

The most frustrating thing about doing tech support is explaining that the reason that something is broken is because the person you're talking to broke it.

That's the story of my life Every. Gorram. Day.

I think one of the best calls I got was during major flooding in one of our smaller cities. A customer called in on their cellphone wondering why their broadband was down. I checked their number, saw they were being affected by the flood and asked if their land line was working. No, of course it wasn't, their phone exchange was knee deep in water and none of the phones, or broadband connections in the area were working. What was the customer's reaction when being told this?

"I don't care about my phone, I just want my internet working!"

There are times that I'm really glad I don't have a gun, or any other type of large weapon.

Ah, yes. I (not so) fondly remember my days on the helldesk.

I think my favorite was the guy that, when asked if he had a computer, replied, "No. But I have a VCR. Does that help?".

LOL.

I really hate people when it comes to anything to do with computers. I figured I was less likely to end up in prison if I got outta the biz, so here I sit.

At least it's just an easy-to-change font...
