Sunday afternoon, my trusty Toshiba laptop, Blue Max, gave up the ghost.  Not much data lost, if any, thanks to a weekend-before CD-burning fit.  The replacement arrived yesterday, a factory-refurbished IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad R50.  It's a little bit heavier than the Toshiba, and I'm going to be a while getting used to the slightly different keyboard, but so long as it holds together for the next 18 months, I'll be happy enough.

I guess I've just had an electronic-kiss-of-death week, as the hard drive on my Mac at work failed yesterday morning.  Upon hearing that I'd killed two machines in four days, quite a few co-workers asked me to come around and lay hands on their computers as well.  As you might guess, morale is terrific there.

After a couple of weeks off, we get back to Freeport tonight.  Off next week, though, and were it not for the work-related stupidity I have to deal with right now, I'd try to put a one-shot together to fill in the gap.

35 days until GenCon.

We Own the Night is a pretty good cops-and-gangsters flick.  It starts off very strong, but wanders off-track a few times.  Casting is terrific (Robert Duvall, Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix, Eva Mendes), and the soundtrack's a lot of fun.

Batman: Gotham Knight is also quite good.  Each of the six segments fits together nicely, and for the most part, they look terrific.  The glaring exception is the first, "Have I Got a Story for You."  Backgrounds and scenery are gorgeous, but the character design is dreadful.

I saw Rosemary's Baby recently, too - for the first time, even.  It is spooky, and does a bang-up job, but The Exorcist still comes out ahead.
