Bones of the Magi
Mar. 5th, 2021 09:11 pmSnow and ice melt, and rain soaks the ground and flows into creeks and streams and rivers. We're seeing the result of a couple of weeks of precipitation now. The Ohio is up, way up, as is the Kentucky and the Green. Here, River Road is submerged in a dozen places, most importantly to me between 3rd and 7th, so my drive to work requires some adjustment. A whole marina broke loose, maybe from somewhere on Lake Herrington, and made it downstream of Frankfort before grounding itself. All of that excess water is going into the Ohio at Carrollton and heading our way. Liberty has gotten hammered again, the second time in less than a year, and I've heard that the Army Corps of Engineers is going to be there in a few weeks to survey for a possible levee.
Building a levee would help, but there are complications, of course. The main east-west road would have to be realigned, including building a new bridge and a new intersection with a county road that comes off of a pretty steep hill. Not insurmountable problems, but they are problems.
I'll see some of the flooded area around Liberty for myself tomorrow, I guess. Going to see Mom&Dad for a little while, and of course the Doberman. It's going to be a long drive, since I'm going to Bowling Green first and then tearing across the Cumberland Parkway. And since I want to get an early start on things, I should start wrapping this entry up and head to bed soon.
