She's in Parties
Sep. 9th, 2019 11:18 amI saw Dad briefly on Wednesday. He was out around National Turnpike, picking up a car. He told me this over the phone, and my immediate thought was "Well, yay, another junker to clutter up the yard." So, I wasn't in my best mood when we met up. He called me six times in the last mile of the drive, and I hate using my phone while driving, so that didn't exactly help - and, like every one else in this modern world, I was using my phone's navigation app, so didn't need or want the additional distraction. To his credit, Dad said he bought the car for its engine and transmission, which are matches for the original equipment in the F-100, so hopefully this won't be another aborted mess.
We're having some staffing woes, and I wound up picking up about eleven hours of overtime this week. The first OT stretch wasn't too bad - just coming in for six hours on my nominal night off - but the second was staying for five hours after my normal shift ended, and midnight to 5AM was a long stretch. Thank goodness for employee lounges with comfortable-enough couches and partners who understand. I expect to pick up some more OT in the next couple of weeks until someone else is hired.
Friday game night saw a whole lot of Armada on the tables - eight players over the course of the night. I got in two matches, using a couple of Imperial Star Destroyers. I won the first match against a pair of Interdictors, a Gladiator, and an Arquitens. The Interdictors forced my hand in deployment, and I made the right choice in starting off with the ISDs close together. They were able to cover one another and overlap firing arcs during most engagements - they vaporized the small ships in single rounds, and overcame the Interdictors' repair capabilities. And then I went up against a Super Star Destroyer, and that went poorly. I got in some hits on the thing, but it just was too much. The SSD's not invincible, and I think I could have beaten it with a different strategy.
Game reading - Cthulhu City started off a little weak, but turned out to be have a bounty of good ideas in it. I'm about halfway through Dungeon Crawl Classics, and this thing is a blast to read.
