Kentucky's statewide office election was last week. Our little backwater flyover Commonwealth got some national attention, thanks to our very unpopular Trumpist governor. Bevin lost the election by a slim margin - about 5200 votes out of 1.4 million cast. In what should have been a concession speech, Bevin made baseless claims about reports of "irregularities" and called for a recount. The latter is reasonable, given the close count.
Bevin's defeat has been heralded as some kind of great blue victory, but it's really not. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's going to be gone, but every other election went for the Republican candidate in a huge way. It's a net loss, and I'm concerned that the new very Trumpy Attorney General is going to do a lot of harm.
To the east, Virginia turned both of its legislative chambers blue, and that bodes well. I could live and work in Virginia, I think.
