Because the project I'm working on already just isn't enough, I'm thinking about future work already.

Throughout high school and up until about 1995, I was a big Marvel Comics fan, especially the Avengers family of titles.  During one of the big multi-title events (The Crossing), I got disgusted and quit 'em completely.  Picked up a few issues of various things here and there, but nothing serious.  Now, there's this Civil War thing going on, and I think I'm about ready to find a big ol' vat of tar for Mark Millar (and Rob Liefeld and Kevin Siembieda, just on general principles).

So, with Mutants and Masterminds and the M&M Superlink program, I've got the chance to not only build, but publish, my own damn supers world.  I've given it some thought, and I think it's viable - I've got friends among the artists here at work who have expressed interest in illustrating the thing, and I could get a couple of co-writers in on this, too.

May all come to naught, but tonight, it's sounding really really good.

Ooh, you lucky devil. Have you got anything planned out for the world so far, and would you like any help?

Very little planned. I have more "don't-wants" than "wants" right now.

I'll certainly accept help; right now, I'm in the bouncing-around-ideas stage.

Mmm .. bouncing. What have you put in the 'don't want' pile so far?

No post-apocalypse. Probably no alien contact.

Supers have been around for a good long while, in the form of figures of legend. The "super effect" is cyclic, for whatever reason, and it's now on an upswing.

Check. Double-check.

How about 'beings from other dimensions'? In the magical sense that is, not parallel earths.

As for the super effect, I think in times when people are feeling down the need for 'supers' rises as it gives people something to look up to and make them feel better about themselves. Or something like that. It's past midnight here and I'm translating creatures from King Kong to the Ubiquity system - what do I know :p

Other-dimensional and magic? Yes - too much potential ass-whuppery there to not use it. And I mean that in a great many senses.

I like the "triggered by collective unconscious" idea. Filing that one away.

Ahh, you were talking about the game world, not the real world :p

Either way it works, tho in the real world it's more the creation of comic book heroes than actual heroes.

Hmm .. I think I'm going to have to track down a copy of M&M and see what it's like. In the meantime, back to dinosaurs and other nasties...

Sorry - I'm not thinking especially clearly today.

Although, to spin this just a bit, I do think the world in general and my nation in particular is in dire need of genuine heroes right now.

M&M is really something. It and Spycraft are probably the two best incarnations of d20/OGL, although they're very very different.
