Lick and a Promise
Oct. 25th, 2006 06:16 pmBecause the project I'm working on already just isn't enough, I'm thinking about future work already.
Throughout high school and up until about 1995, I was a big Marvel Comics fan, especially the Avengers family of titles. During one of the big multi-title events (The Crossing), I got disgusted and quit 'em completely. Picked up a few issues of various things here and there, but nothing serious. Now, there's this Civil War thing going on, and I think I'm about ready to find a big ol' vat of tar for Mark Millar (and Rob Liefeld and Kevin Siembieda, just on general principles).
So, with Mutants and Masterminds and the M&M Superlink program, I've got the chance to not only build, but publish, my own damn supers world. I've given it some thought, and I think it's viable - I've got friends among the artists here at work who have expressed interest in illustrating the thing, and I could get a couple of co-writers in on this, too.
May all come to naught, but tonight, it's sounding really really good.

Date: 2006-10-26 11:10 am (UTC)Supers have been around for a good long while, in the form of figures of legend. The "super effect" is cyclic, for whatever reason, and it's now on an upswing.

As for the super effect, I think in times when people are feeling down the need for 'supers' rises as it gives people something to look up to and make them feel better about themselves. Or something like that. It's past midnight here and I'm translating creatures from King Kong to the Ubiquity system - what do I know :p

Hmm .. I think I'm going to have to track down a copy of M&M and see what it's like. In the meantime, back to dinosaurs and other nasties...

M&M is really something. It and Spycraft are probably the two best incarnations of d20/OGL, although they're very very different.
