And Donald Rumsfeld "steps down" as SecDef.  Goodbye to the cult of personality that the Commander-in-Chimp has relied on since he was installed in 2001.

Virginia's Senate race is still undecided.  The Dem challenger has 7000 more votes than the Repug incumbent;  I don't think there's really any significant difference in the two, but I'll take one more Dem in the Senate any day.

I don't think I've shared this week's crazy work-related saga.  A woman's cat died, after at least 18 years of companionship.  She ran an ad in our Celebrations section - you know, where normal people announce engagements, weddings, anniversaries.  In addition, she bought 2 or 3 ads in this week's run - color ads, no less.  Something like $2500 in ads to memorialize Patches the cat.  Plus, she had a graveside service at her home for the cat.  Complete with a big tombstone.  Today, the craziness thickened - we find out that she tried to place an actual obituary for the cat, and spoke to either Kerr Brothers or Milward about conducting a full-on funeral.  She was turned down on both occasions, and apparently crushed to the point of sobbing and pleading.  The picture she provided to us for the ads shows the cat wearing a leash.  As it was 18 years old, one of my co-workers voiced the opinion that the cat just suicided, as it couldn't take it any more.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Almost makes me wish I was still in Obits. See, I'd totally run it. If she was well off enough to pay for that, you know, paper of record and all...

She could have done the Ernest Hemmingway thing - suicided herself and left the house to her cat, but the cat kicked it first. Got sick of waiting, I guess. (At least I think I've got the Hemmingway story right....)
