Red-and-gold Iron Man armor has been spotted here.

This is a thing of beauty.

That's even better than Spiderman 3 ;) (though that isn't saying too much)

(Fanboy FYI: Look for Stark's legendary drinking problem to pop up in possible sequels.)

Hmm... after a few battles, Stark decides the suit would be more eco-friendly if it ran on alcohol? :p

So you know how the gray armor is Mark I, and the gold armor is Mark II? I'd always heard that, but when I read Essential Iron Man I was shocked to learn that they weren't too different suits--one issue Tony, at Pepper's suggestion, painted the armor gold. To make it less scary.

The next suit - the comics canon Mark III - was indeed built with a gold plating, to test force-field projection, according to the Iron Manual. It also had an external radio antenna and a kilt.
