I expect I'll finish Homeward Bound (Harry Turtledove) today.  It's been a good read, and I don't regret picking it up, but compared to the previous books, it's a little soft.  It doesn't have the action and intrigue of the Worldwar books, or the sociology of Colonization.

Yesterday was my state's primary election day.  Incumbent Governor came from behind to beat his closest challenger pretty handily.  He'll have to face a pretty strong Democrat challenger who had the remarkable good sense to pick a stellar running mate.  There was a good chance of a runoff election on the Dem side, but I think we've avoided that by a few thousand votes.  Over in the race-for-useless-position-of-State-Treasurer, the cat who proudly trumpeted his endorsement by Kentucky Right-to-Life got beat by a little bit.  His print ads (which I had to proof and process) made me boggle.

Probably going to dodge this weekend's family reunion.  Lots of other things I'd rather do.

color me soooooooo not surprised. the halfwits that put Fletcher in to begin with don't have a clue who his competition even is nor why he's even been in trouble.

I'm going to call bullshit on this. Harper ran a very public campaign, and was actually the first candidate to declare for this race. Northup cost herself a lot of votes by giving off this vibe that as long as she won Jefferson County and certain chunks of the western part of the state, she'd wallop Fletcher. As of last week, Northup was the favorite in every poll in Kentucky by at least a handful of points. She shot herself in the foot by ignoring a sizable portion of the state's Repubs and running on no real platform besides "I'm not him!" The late-night robocalling of potential voters hurt her, too.

About the only people in this state who didn't know at least some details of the hiring problems are maybe the Amish. Now, whether they didn't buy it, didn't care, or figured it was time the GOP got some of that sweet juicy graft, or whatever, everybody knew what was what. Maybe Fletcher was the lesser-of-two-evils candidate, but he sure wouldn't be the first.

you have so much more faith than me. most people can't even tell you who the vice president is. then again, those people probably don't vote.

speaking of late-night robocalling, I hear some people got "Petrelli for Congress" calls before the "Landslide" episode - awesome.

Most of the faith I have in anything is based on empirical evidence. Ask me sometime why I just can't discount the idea of God.

NBC did some good promotion and marketing stuff for Heroes. The Nathan Petrelli campaign website was very cool - especially when Wireless hacked it. Warner Brothers is doing something similar for The Dark Knight. Check out www.ibelieveinharveydent.com and www.ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com. For the latter, you might just need to highlight a few places here and there.
