I bought and watched Superman: Doomsday last night, and it's pretty darn good.  It moves very quickly, the voice-acting is really good, and there's a terrific cameo thrown in there.  My only real complaint is Superman's character design - the cheekbones are drawn really strangely.  The DVD is packed full of extras, including a look at the upcoming Justice League: The New Frontier.

My wingman at the office is taking a 2-week-and-change vacation at the end of the week.  The additional workload's not going to be any real problem, but she's a lot of fun to work with, and things will become even more boring.  Tomorrow, I'm slated to be part of a focus group (which I'm hoping doesn't become the plural form of moron) for a new online initiative the company is launching.  Whee!

The one thing that worries me about DC kicking off their DVD line with Doomsday is that they're setting the bar pretty high right off the bat. From memory, the next title for release is a Justice League story, which - while good - isn't quite on the level as the biggest Superman story of all time.

I really do hope they continue to do well with the DVDs. I love the Marvel ones, and there's just as much potential in the DC universe for some goodness.

I think DC's taking a good tack - the death of Superman is something everybody knows, and it's the sort of thing that even reasonably casual fans can get an easy handle on. With the preview material on that disc, you get some immediate advertising for the next project. I'd never even heard of New Frontier until I saw an article on the animated movies, and I'm now champing at the bit for it.

I hoping to be able to pick up the DVD tomorrow (well, in a few hours time now) - if it's out here, that is. I'm looking forward to being able to see the previews for New Frontier, and all the rest of the bonus material as well.

That said, I will be picking up Heroes on DVD tomorrow, so that might be taking priority for a short while :p

I've held off on buying Heroes, and I'm almost proud of myself for doing so. I do expect my resolve to fail when the new season starts up next week.

Oh, I know. I think it was easily the best thing on TV this season. Certainly the only new show of the 2006-2007 season that hooked me for every episode.

Focus groups probably follow the same rule as committees. The effective IQ of a committee is equal to the average IQ of a member divided by the square of the number of members.

Hope it doesn't, for the sake of your sanity.

So I just watched Superman and, apart from a couple of niggles, I pretty much agree with your assessment. The cheekbones didn't bother me as much, it was more a couple of points where the voice acting wasn't quite as sharp as it could have been.

Oh, and James Marsters can play Luthor again any time he wants.

(I haven't got the actual DVD, I aquired it through other means. Looks like we're in for a wait for the real thing)

Marsters gave us a good Lex. I think I still like Clancy Brown better for sheer rumbly menace, but Marsters ... well, he did exude a little more charisma from ol' Lex, and I like that.
