My employer is being purchased by a smaller newspaper publisher, the McClatchy Company.  I don't know a whole lot about McClatchy, but there aren't any huge red flags waving about them.  They do intend to sell off a dozen of Knight-Ridder's papers in a pretty broad range of markets, but the H-L isn't on the list.

Caught up on Battlestar Galactica and Stargate SG-1 this weekend.  Jury's still out on BSG, and I'm getting more and more excited about SG-1.

Just to clarify, is there any danger of your job getting messed with? Someone buying the company you work for sounds serious.

I mean, my company changes names and hands all the time, but I know we'll still be around. :+D

Almost none. There will be some big cuts in both companies' corporate offices, but the individual properties won't see any wholesale changes.

I'm finding out more about McClatchy, and they look to be a good outfit. Family-owned, strong commitments to good journalism and taking care of the employee and being advocates for the community. Not too different from Knight-Ridder, in fact. I do expect to lose some of the monster PTO benefits we get, but there are worse things, I guess.

I'm trying to follow this story - it interests and worries me greatly - but I'm having trouble finding any indication of how it affects the local paper directly. Keep me posted.
