Took Erin and one of her friends out to lunch yesterday.  A good way to spend the afternoon.  Wrote a little, did laundry.  Watched the first episode of When We Left Earth.

Thinking about a one-shot for Free RPG Day, after the obligatory game-store looting.  Scion?  Blue Rose?  7th Sea?  Star Wars?

This should be a good week at work - I'm going to be going out with some of the sales reps to meet with the folks at dealerships what handle advertising.  Since my new responsibilities will include making final approval on ads before they go to press, getting a better working relationship with these folks will be a plus.

I'm running one of Goodman's DCCs for 3.5 for Free RPG Day. The store's owner is also going to have Tunnels and Trolls and a 4th Ed game going as well.

I still need to pick out a module....

I liked the Goodman stuff, and admire them for finding their niche and doing it better than anyone else.

Goodman writes some great modules. Better than a lot of what Wizards puts out.

They advertised "First Edition Feel," and I think they were spot-on with that. Nice and simple - go wallop the monsters, grab the treasure, level up.

Well, you could always play the Hollow Earth Expedition adventure. I hear it is pretty dino-tastic.

I still need to buy those books. And some ubiquity dice.

Yes. Yes you do ;)

The third book is coming out at GenCon, too, though the first one is all you really need to get some good games going.

Mysteries is a GenCon release? Arrgh. My buy-there list has gone from one book to three in a week.

Don't you hate that? Watching your Con cash slowly but surely shrink down to nothing with each new release....

I get lucky again this year - August is a 3-paycheck month, and paycheck #2 (the "bonus one") falls on the Friday of GenCon. Hooray, direct deposit.

Heh, sorry dude ;) It's going to be a little more expensive than Secrets (from what I last heard), but as I mentioned earlier it is a fair bit bigger, so should be worth it.

I rather liked Secrets; is Mysteries going to be about core book size?

Give or take. I'm not sure on the exact page count, but there's going to be a significant amount of both fluff and crunch in there.

I want to, but right now I'm running D&D. Maybe once I'm done with D&D I'll do a bit of HEX.

If you want to introduce roleplaying to a group of new gamers, you'd probably have an easier time with HEX, too. There's a lot less math involved, and the rules concepts are fairly straight-forward.

Some may bitch about the "weapons add to skill roll" rule, but I kinda like it. Makes weapons just another tool, and it's easy enough to houserule, if they complain enough.

True. Which is good, because I'd need to learn them myself as I only had the one game I've played so far.

Are there any adventures already out there with PCs created and ready to go?

Once you get the basic game mechanic, everything else is pretty simple. Yeah, it's not exactly realistic when it comes to weapons adding to damage, but this game is more about having fun and feeding Nazis to dinosaurs.

The main book comes with a selection of sample starting characters and an adventure, as do Secrets and Mysteries. There are also a selection of free adventures on Exile Games site, a couple of which come with pre-genned PCs.

You know, I looked at it and I can get the core book, the GM screen and a set of U Dice for about $60 bucks, delivered by the end of the week. I just can't justify it. I just dropped $100 for 4E. I want to buy the books, but it's just not in the cards.

I got a set of the dice at Diecon last weekend. Pretty neat idea there, I think.
