Picked up a big ol' population of cold viruses a week or so ago, and I am not enjoying their company. Coughing, sneezing, headache, so much mucus, sore throat. This sucks, and I'll be glad when it's gone.

I think my immune system is weakening. I rarely got sick, and if I did, it was mild - I remember a girlfriend being damn near incapacitated by a cold for over a week, and all I had was a day or two of mild sniffles. Later on, I noticed that if I did get sick, it was pretty bad, so I figured that it just meant that a particularly nasty strain of whatever had overpowered me. Now, though, I'm getting a bad cold like this one about every year. All part of aging, I guess.

In other news, thanks to Amazon Prime, I'm filling in one of my old nerd-culture gaps. For fair reasons and foul, I saw very little of Babylon 5 during it's initial run back in ... gods, I'm old. On the whole, I'm enjoying it. The writing and worldbuilding hold up pretty well, and there is a lot of material to mine here. As part of the viewing, I've dove into Wikipedia and other sources to read about the production and get some insight into the setting, and finding out about Michael O'Hare, the actor who played the station's first commander, Jeffrey Sinclair. O'Hare was an accomplished stage actor with a number of TV roles when he was cast as Sinclair. Over the course of the first season, O'Hare developed some mental illnesses - paranoid delusions and hallucinations. Straczynski offered to suspend production on the show while O'Hare got treatment, but O'Hare didn't want his castmates to be out of work, so he arranged to have Sinclair written out of the show at the end of the season. Class act, and especially so given his mental health.

Anyway, I'm enjoying the watch. I just started the fourth season, and I understand that the story really wraps up here; the fifth season wasn't expected to happen, and it's a little bit of a mess.
