Busy week.
I started the meetings with my practicum hosts this week, including a Medical Reserve Corps meeting. My membership lapsed a while back, so I need to renew that, and see about doing the same with my CERT membership. I'm in a good position with this project. The area MRC coordinator is new to the area and to the governing agency, so we're both making this up as we go along.
Thursday was the first farmers market of the year, and holy cow was it big. Eleven vendors and three food trucks. At one point our attendance count was over 300, and that made for a crowded block of Gray Street. We got lucky - people were looking forward to the first market day of the year, and it was the first warm sunny day after nearly a week of grey rainy days.
Broke my no-tournament pledge this afternoon. Probably wouldn't have, if one of my close group hadn't gone. We got lucky with timing - there was a big-ass regional today in Ohio, and that drew the more aggressively competitive players. The store had some leftover components from a couple of Winter kits and wanted to clear out those and the existing Spring kit bits, so everybody went home with plenty of stuff. I drew a first-round bye and lost close matches, placing mid-pack at the end of the day, going home with a Falcon dice bag, a pack of red/white ionization tokens and extra munitions tokens, and a stack of alt-art Gunner and Veteran Instincts cards, plus the alt-art Darth Vader pilot card. Most of these duplicated bits I already had, so I'll probably give them away. Anyway, it was a good time, and it beat lying around the house or going to a probably not-great Call of Cthulhu game.
Tomorrow's the next Slur Your Role, and I'm planning to get into an Edge of the Empire game. I'm half-expecting one of the bystanders from last weekend's nonsense to be there. If so, hilarity may ensue, or there may be a dramasplosion.
2016's been a year of transitions, comings and goings. I'm halfway through my MPH program, and while not setting the world on fire, I'm doing pretty darn well. I'm going to GenCon one last time. A relationship has finally shown to require a lot more energy than I feel like pouring into it, and to my surprise, I'm not really bothered by the possible end of it. I've found new strong friendships within the cohort, and there's this weird little dating thing going on - there's a firm point where it will end, as she's a foreign student and going home when her PhD is done. Heck of a year, and it's only May.
Onward.
