tracker7Met up with Donald W today for an X-Wing match. Don's a very good player, easily better than me - at least, in the game's default mode of play. Coming up is some sort of special weekend-long multi-format event, and he wanted some Epic practice, and, well, the nickname Epic Andy has been applied regularly. I kitted out a CR90 and gave it an escort of a couple of B-Wings, a stolen TIE, and a Rey/Finn/Ezra Millennium Falcon. Nothing cutting edge, but a solid mix of ships. Don had a very solid Scum force, using the harpoon missiles that are the hot new thing (and are going to see a serious rules correction soon - but I digress) as his first-strike strategy. Against a more conventional opponent, the bunch of missile carriers could have been devastating, but I had a healthy store of energy and Toryn Farr wasn't afraid to use it to perform her electronic warfare fuckery, so it didn't work out well for the pirates. Deployment worked in my favor, too - two of his freighters set up in the far right-forward corner of the field, and by the time they were able to join the fight, my CR90 had put a hurting onto three of his ships and my escorts had swept around the back of the corvette and focused fire to finish up the CR90's work. In the end, I lost the corvette, but I swept his entire force.
Lesson learned for me - pour energy into shield regeneration, instead of recharging weapons that can't be brought to bear in the present turn. The escorts are there to draw fire and back up the corvette, so let them do so.
Waves 12 and 13 release this week, a mix of EU and TLJ content. I'm not too taken with the Resistance Bomber and I only rarely play S&V, so only three of the five ships are on my list right now. I'll maybe double up on the the Star Wing, since it looks really good for Epic play and people have embraced that around these parts. I still haven't flown anything from Wave 11, so maybe a little silly to snap up new ships as soon as they hit shelves, but whatever.
