Running Out of Firsts

Sunday was the first Mother’s Day without Mom, and FB reminded me that yesterday was the one-year mark since her last one. We had a terrific day together that day. Dad was on the road, and I was’t going to make her spend the day alone, so I went for a visit. It was really a lovely one. We spent the day watching movies, sitting on the porch and talking and petting the Doberman, just being together. I had found this hanging chime set with a cardinal design the day before, a panicky last-minute gift, and she loved it. It’s still on the porch, next to the Metalbirds cardinals I got her and Dad for their anniversary a few months before.
Yesterday, I closed out her estate bank account and signed off on the last set of documents with their attorney. It left me a little bit numb, to be honest, but I’m anything but that right now.
Dammit, I miss her so much.
