Yesterday, [personal profile] tegyrius and I headed off to Louisville for the Great Train Expo.  I was good, and didn't buy anything, but there were many, many locomotives to tempt me.  Several operating layouts were on display, including a good-sized LEGO setup, but my favorite was easily the monster modular layout that the Kentucky Society of N-Scalers presented.  At one point, to show the cool stuff you can do with N scale and a large modular layout, they had a coal train running that was close to 60 feet long.  Scaled up, that's better than a mile of train.

After the show, we wound our way to The Louisville Game Shop for a little while.  Good, as always, to see Colin, and throw some money his way.  I finally found a copy of World on Fire, and again exercised restraint by not buying two other books.

Now, it's time to work on some games.

Yeah. Delayed probably another year because of Fantasycraft.

Is that so?

Interesting. Not a decision I'd have made.

Likewise. There are plenty of fantasy systems out there, but a certain dearth of modern-day material that's not horror or supers.

D&D4E is still going to be the 900-pound gorilla, and for those who don't care for D&D but still want fantasy, there's GURPS, True20, Warhammer, and scads more.

There are better places for resources to be expended.

Exactly. If I want to do something more modern, I have some sort of generic, which you've mentioned above, D20 Modern which I don't enjoy and Spycraft, which I think did the spy genre very, very well.

I really don't know why they're dropping everything to do FantasyCraft...

Hubris, I guess.

As Tegyrius is fond of saying, this looks like a solution in search of a problem.

I'm not in a position to know much about Crafty's operations, and kind of like it that way.

No, not now, I know that and understand that. But you do have a history.
