Had a good visit with Dad. Didn't see the comet, and it was really too cold to do very much, but I enjoyed the brief getaway.

Podcasts and my streaming queues have led me to watching and rewatching a slate of supers movies. Spider-Man 2 remains one of the best of the mix, and I put it at the top of the live-action Spider-movies. Alfred Molina just shines as Doctor Octopus. Superman 2 is also stellar, forty years on. I will still defend Man of Steel, on the whole - Cavill is good! Diane Lane and Kevin Costner are very good! I would pay full-price for a Russell Crowe-as-Jor-El, Action Scientist movie. To balance things out, Morbius is really that bad. It's clumsy and wastes a lot of talent.

One of the shows responsible for all of this is the fantastic How Did This Get Made. It's easily one of my favorite listens, and among the very funny rips on bad movie, I find myself learning more about the filmmaking process. Anyway, a couple of nights ago, I listened to the lengthy episode they did on the Snyder cut of Justice League. I expected it to be pretty vicious, and the episode did start out with bad notes, but ultimately, the podcasters declared the Snyder cut better than the theatrical release. And now I'm looking at throwing a few bucks at HBO Max to watch the Snyder cut. And probably Black Adam, too.

Dad's selling the little plot in Logan County. He's going over there this week to close the deal, and then we can leave that place to the hearts and minds that live in those mountains, and those that serve or oppose them.

(Old Gods of Appalachia, y'all. If you're not listening to it, you're missing out.)

OGoA released a family meeting audio clip today, giving us a heads-up on the next season, some live shows, and the TTRPG. Details to come on the twelfth.

Houston roared back and won Game 5 last night. Games 6 and 7 are in Houston, and it is sure enough going to be a hostile environment for Atlanta.

I managed to relax some over the weekend - didn't sleep late either day, but kept myself in bed until at least mid-morning both days. Felt pretty darn good to just lay there for a while, reading and listening to Weekend Edition. Stocked the cabinets and freezer. Played MCC on Saturday afternoon, read some more Cussler. Watched the Dodgers beat up on the Giants, sweeping the series.

The red-eyed cicadas of Brood 10 sure seem to like my truck's tires for whatever insectoid reason. There have been a bunch of them on the tires the last few mornings, and a few on the hood. This afternoon was the first time I've heard the things; not really loud, but you can't not hear them in the neighborhood. Hope the birds and other insectivores are able to enjoy this bounty.

I listened to several episodes of Knowledge Fight yesterday. Gods bless these guys for listening to Alex Jones so the rest of us don't have to. I knew that Jones is, to be technical, a loon, but good grief, I didn't really understand that Sweet Christmas this guy is absolutely nuts.

Well crap. Mom just called. She's taken a fall and injured herself, maybe a broken hip. Hospitalized in Liberty, not yet X-rayed or otherwise examined, and Dad's out on the road. She told me not to worry about going down to see her just yet - an uncle and aunt are there with her. I do not like this at all.

We're back on Eastern Standard Time as of today, and that means that sunset was as 5:42PM this afternoon. After a too-long summer that saw 90F+ days into early October, I welcome the long cool nights of the past few weeks. It's time to shore up the defenses, though - our old foe Seasonal Affective Disorder is lurking in these early dark hours.

Halloween was mostly quiet and relaxing. Mostly. Dad called around 4, The Niece's car had broken down and he wanted me to see if I could fix it. I did, by having it towed to my place; Dad came up Friday morning and made a field-expedient repair, which held together for about half of his drive back to Liberty.

Gaming Friday night was ... well, it was experienced-player-and-new-GM, so somewhat frustrating on my end. Saturday was much better, with nine people showing up to play Armada. I think we're going to have enough players for a Rebellion in the Rim campaign, if we can ever organize ourselves.

A few nights ago, an episode of the Lore podcast (101, on shapechangers) got into my head and for whatever reason, it really messed with me. I'm talking long minutes of my arm hair standing on end and pumped-up adrenaline and everything. Something about the stories and the telling just got to me.

In a less-spooky and more thoughtful manner, the Cults episode on Victor Paul Weirwille and his weird-ass branch of Christianity called The Way got into my head, too. I can remember seeing a copy of that group's printings of the Protestant Bible floating around the house when I was a kid, and reading the commentary on the books, if not the scripture itself (and I don't know why exactly, but I hate the word "scripture"). I can't recall ever going to any The Way events, but they may have just gotten lost in the melange of tent revivals and singings and whatever other "special" worship events I was dragged to over the years.

An hour after sunset, and it is full dark here in Louisville, Kentucky. Dear reader, that's sign enough for me to wrap up this entry and turn my eyes elsewhere for a while.

I should probably be in bed right now, but I had playing WoW on my mind during the last couple of hours at work tonight. Figured I'd start up a podcast episode (Spybrary tonight, in case you were wondering) and play until the episode ended. Big WoW update has torpedoed part of the plan, so I'm listening to Shane Whaley and a guest talk spy media.

And upon further review, I'm going to hit the sack and listen to this as I go to sleep because that sounds better than watching a progress bar crawl to its destination.
