(Disclaimer: not actually in Memphis)

The end of the semester is closing in quickly; sometimes it feels like I'm rocketing towards the horizon, sometimes it feels like the ground is rushing up to greet me. I missed one assignment in my last entry - a short presentation on the 25th. And that's the end, one way or another.

Star Wars Celebration is going on. Well, I guess it just wrapped up this afternoon. Some friends went, and posted up plenty of pictures. We got teasers for the fourth and final season of Rebels and for The Last Jedi. Despite having only seen one episode of Rebels this season, I'm as excited about the upcoming season as I am the next movie. Rebels has done some great storytelling over its run, and despite its home on DisneyXD, it hasn't been dumbed down.

Steve J was in town this weekend, and we got to catch up over dinner and drinks. Despite being exiled to Paducah, he's doing pretty well. I wasn't aware that I needed a night out like that. For the past couple of years, most of my socialization has been with the cohort or gaming, and while that's by no means bad, I guess I needed something else.

Today, storms. Thunder woke me up around 5AM today, and, having no real need to get up so early, I spent a couple of hours lying in bed watching the flashes of lightning and listening to thunderclaps and rain pelting my bedroom windows and awnings. Really nice. Three more storm fronts blew through over the course of the day. Lots of rain. Some heavier weather to the east, based on Facebook postings. Our weather was a good backdrop to homework. Good progress.

Well, I did it. Friday the 11th was my last day at the paper. I feel good about the decision. I'm free of the place and all of its toxins. It means being away from a lot of good people, of course, but this is the era of easy and ubiquitous connection, so that sting isn't so bad.

Had a really good evening out with friends on Thursday evening - one of the very few times I can remember crossing the work/not-work streams. Shared celebration of my departure and Diane's birthday. Dinner, drinks and pool and great conversations going past midnight. There's going to be at least one more party here before I leave, and at least a couple more when I get settled in Louisville.

Up late Friday night after leaving work, because why not. Slept way later than I should have on Saturday. Missed most of a really gorgeous day. Spent a little while poking around at the Focus' fuse box this afternoon before the constant sweat dripping into my eyes drove me back inside. I'll try again in a couple of hours, in that glorious time around sunset when there's still plenty of light but the heat of the day is gone. Hoping the problem is just a fuse; otherwise it's a trip to the shop and opening up the instrument panel.

Mom&Dad will be here in a bit. Looking forward to seeing them - may not get to again until after the move.

GenCon event registration opened today at noon. In less than 25 minutes, all of our events sold out. My own wish list worked out, getting me into three games - Deadlands: Hell on Earth, Mage: the Awakening, and Blue Planet. I had enough in system credit from last year to cover these three tickets, and will probably pick up a few generic tickets to use for Games-on-Demand events over the course of the weekend.

CPTAAL's birthday to-do was last night. Started at Havana Rumba (delicious), ended in something of an anticlimactic petering-out, but it was a good night. Got Diane out of the house, and she had a good time. Talked shop with Matt McCloud for a bit. Made plans for spending next weekend in Louisville.
