Louisville's NWSL team played its first match Saturday afternoon, tying 2-2. Game had a delay for a thunderstorm, but after that came a couple of rainbows. This is the first time Louisville has had a top-level pro sports team since the mid-70s, I think, and I'll sure as hell take women's soccer over a NBA franchise.

Gods, I hate basketball.

Spring is not screwing around this year. The past couple of weeks has been a beautiful explosion of green, and the two dogwoods in the front yard are lovely in white and pink.

I mowed the front yard this morning, and in a sane world, that would be the whole of my labors today.

I'm watching the Indy Grand Prix, and the cars now have windshields. I am not used to seeing this, and according to the commentary, it helps the aerodynamics, it makes the cockpit really hot - like, 130F on the drivers. If this is an experiment for this season, I'm looking forward to the driver evaluations at the end of the year.

There was a long aerial shot of downtown Indy just now, and while cancelling GenCon this year was the right decision, I am going to miss seeing my convention family. Next year, next year.

I've joked about the perspective I have from being a long-haul trucker's kid - long(ish) distances really aren't anything to me, that "unless I cross two state lines and a time zone, I've just gone out for a gallon of milk." I think it's time I started applying that brag to seeing friends. Two hours or less from me? Let's get together for dinner and a game, once it's safe to do so.

It's the first day of spring, and since noon, about two inches of snow have fallen, and the current forecast calls for a couple more before sunrise, with an inch more east of here. That's just not what I wanted to hear, since Bourbon County demands my appearance at 9AM.

Saw Mom&Dad Sunday. Dad did his best to get Mom and me to pay attention to and talk about the basketball tournament games, but since UK wasn't playing, Mom didn't care, and since it's basketball, I didn't either. The IMSA races were more interesting to us, and our books were even more so. Good drive to and from the farm, with no antler-rats appearing at any time.

Basketball bores the everloving hell out of me. Around here, that makes me something of a pariah, as UK basketball is something of a religion. Being utterly disinterested when you're surrounded by a largely fannish population has some occasional advantages, though - like the office emptying out on Friday afternoon. Looks like I'll have that again on Thursday, which is pretty alright, too, since I'm off Friday of the coming week.

Saw John Carter yesterday. It's a darn good movie, enjoyable, fun, beautiful, and full of adventure. And likely to be a commercial flop because of studio infighting and a piss-poor, if I'm being kind, advertising campaign. Go see this while you have the chance.

I've been drawn, briefly, back into World of Warcraft. There's some kind of resurrection promo, giving free Cataclysm content and a boost to 80th level and a few other goodies. I figure I'll run around for a couple of months and hang it up again when the prepaid play time card I bought expires.

I'm currently reading Resurrection Day, by Brendan DuBois. It's a very good read so far, a murder mystery set in an America still suffering the effects of the war brought on by the Cuban Missile Crisis. DuBois is an award-winning mystery writer and his craft really shows in this one. Recommended.

Auditioning a prospective GM for GenCon this week, and I'm ... not hopeful. Still looking to recruit a couple for the show.
